Matthew Rudy Convicted as Accessory After the Fact in 2014 Homicide

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Matthew Rudy, 43, of Jamestown, New York, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for acting as an accessory after the fact in connection with the 2014 murder of Joseph Anthony. The sentence was imposed by Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo of the Western District of New York.

Crime Background

On May 27, 2014, Anthony Neubauer kidnapped Joseph Anthony under false pretenses, offering him cocaine and convincing him to travel from Jamestown to a rural property in Pennsylvania owned by Rudy. Upon arrival, Neubauer and Rudy admitted they had no drugs. Shortly afterward, Neubauer shot and killed Anthony. The two men then buried the victim’s body on Rudy’s property, believing Anthony was cooperating with law enforcement.

Matthew Rudy was convicted of accessory after the fact, acknowledging his role in assisting Neubauer with concealing the murder.

Ongoing Prosecution

Anthony Neubauer was previously convicted in the case and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Investigative Agencies

The investigation was led by the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm. Additional support was provided by the Warren County District Attorney’s Office in Pennsylvania.
