š The Irish Government has published its Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, outlining 85 targeted measuresā26 of which are designated as prioritiesāto strengthen Irelandās economic resilience amid global uncertainty.
Taoiseach MicheĆ”l Martin, TĆ”naiste Simon Harris, and Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke jointly announced the plan, describing it as a strategic, whole-of-Government response to evolving economic challenges. The initiative focuses on domestic levers of growth, aiming to ācontrol the controllablesā and reinforce Irelandās position as a leading competitive economy.
š ļø The plan is structured around six key themes:
- Advancing research, innovation, and skills
- Enhancing foreign direct investment and EU engagement
- Supporting SME creation and scaling
- Regulating for growth and managing costs
- Expanding infrastructure delivery capacity
- Promoting regional development and sustainable enterprise
Each action is assigned to a specific department or agency, with oversight led by the Department of the Taoiseach. The planās development included public consultation, stakeholder engagement, and benchmarking against peer economies.
š” Ministers highlighted the importance of digital transformation, regional connectivity, and inclusive growth. Minister Niamh Smyth emphasized the role of artificial intelligence, noting eight dedicated measures to support digital adoption.
š¶ Funding for implementation will draw from the National Development Plan Review 2025, including ā¬3.68 billion for enterprise and ā¬4.55 billion for education and innovation.
Minister Burke concluded, āThis plan is our blueprint for adapting to new global realities and ensuring Irelandās continued economic success.ā
