Leah Paul is looking forward to Ireland getting back on the horse against the West Indies in Cape Town today after the bitter disappointment of losing heavily to Pakistan at the T20 World Cup on Wednesday night, writes David Townsend.
ll-rounder Paul believes a fully firing Ireland side is capable of beating the Caribbean women who have also lost two games – and with only a final match against India to follow, it’s the clash which will likely decide who leaves South Africa winless.
“It’s probably good to be playing again so soon as we’re kind of renowned for our ability to be able to bounce back.” Paul said, as she looked back on the 70-run loss to Pakistan.
“As a group we’re extremely disappointed with how that game went, mainly because we didn’t execute our skills to the ability that we can and have done against the same team only a few months ago.”
The 23-year-old Merrion slow left-armer is expecting a different challenge from the powerful West Indies.
“We know what they’re going to bring to the game,” she said. “They have a few seamers and good quick-ball spinners as well. It’s just about how we go out there and ply our skills better than we have done the past few games.
“We’ve proven that if we put a full team performance out there to the best of our ability we can beat any team in the world, so hopefully that’s the plan, and we right a few wrongs.”
