Ireland Taoiseach Micheál Martin Welcomes Middle East Peace Proposal

Dublin — Taoiseach Micheál Martin has welcomed the peace plan unveiled at the White House, describing it as a significant opportunity to end the conflict in Gaza and lay the groundwork for a broader settlement in the Middle East.

In a statement, Martin thanked President Donald Trump for his efforts to secure a ceasefire, facilitate the release of hostages, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He also noted the importance of regional powers committing to support and implement the agreement, calling this “encouraging and essential for stability.”

Drawing on Ireland’s own peace process, the Taoiseach stressed that any durable settlement must be inclusive and reflect the identities and aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians. He underlined that Palestinians, like Israelis, must be central to any sustainable agreement capable of delivering lasting peace.

Martin welcomed the proposal’s assurances that there would be no displacement of Gaza’s population, no Israeli occupation of the territory, and no role for Hamas in Gaza’s political future. He urged all sides to seize the opportunity to achieve an immediate ceasefire, bringing relief to civilians after two years of conflict.

He further emphasised the urgent need for unhindered humanitarian access, delivered by the UN and the Red Crescent, alongside the rebuilding of vital infrastructure such as water and sewage systems. The Taoiseach also called for the return of all hostages, both living and deceased, to their families.

“This plan is an opportunity to change the narrative and to work for a lasting solution,” Martin said. “I hope it will not be lost.”
