⚠️ Escalating Crisis in Sudan

Ireland’s Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Harris, has joined a coalition of international leaders in signing a joint statement condemning atrocities in Sudan. The declaration follows the fall of El Fasher to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and reports of systematic violence against civilians across North Darfur and Kordofan.

The statement highlights grave concerns over ethnically motivated mass killings, sexual violence, starvation used as a weapon of war, and obstruction of humanitarian aid, describing these acts as abhorrent violations of international humanitarian law.

🗣️ Global Condemnation

The joint declaration was endorsed by foreign ministers and senior officials from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, with additional support from Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Finland, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Switzerland.

Signatories stressed that such crimes, if substantiated, constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity, demanding an immediate end to violence and insisting that impunity must end.

🚑 Humanitarian Access and Ceasefire Call

The statement urges all parties to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2736, guaranteeing safe passage for civilians and unimpeded delivery of food, medicine, and essential supplies. It calls for a three‑month humanitarian truce, as outlined in the Quad initiative, to allow agencies such as WFP and UNICEF to carry out life‑saving work.

🌍 Protecting Sudan’s Sovereignty

Leaders expressed concern over attempts to partition Sudan, reaffirming support for the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. They emphasised that only a broad, inclusive Sudanese‑led political process can resolve the conflict and deliver peace, dignity, and justice for the Sudanese people.

In summary: Ireland’s Tánaiste has joined global partners in condemning atrocities in Sudan, demanding accountability, humanitarian access, and a ceasefire. The statement underscores international solidarity in pressing for an end to violence and a Sudanese‑owned path to peace.
