PORTLAOISE, Ireland — Ministers Martin Heydon TD and Michael Healy-Rae TD have announced the awarding of tenders for two new farm safety awareness programmes targeting children and young people. The initiatives, unveiled at the National Ploughing Championships 2025, will receive a combined €152,041 in funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
Irish Rural Link’s AgriKids – Farm Safety Ambassador Programme will engage primary school pupils, while FRS Training Society Ltd will deliver safety awareness sessions to secondary-level students, including transition year and agricultural science groups.
Minister Heydon emphasised the importance of instilling a culture of safety from a young age, while Minister Healy-Rae called on families to model best practices on farms. Both projects aim to educate students on key hazards such as machinery, livestock, chemicals, and working at heights.
The programmes will be rolled out nationwide and completed by November 2025.
