Ireland is bracing for more severe winter weather as a Status Orange ice warning is now in effect for most of the country, except for Donegal, where a Status Yellow warning remains in place. The warnings, which began at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, will last until 11 a.m. on Thursday, while Donegal’s alert will remain active until noon on Friday.
The nation is expected to experience widespread frost, ice, and snow, with temperatures in some areas plummeting as low as -8°C, particularly in the midlands. Counties such as Offaly and Laois are forecasted to see the coldest conditions overnight.
Though most of Ireland will remain dry overnight, snow showers are expected along the northwest coast. Temperatures will stay below freezing through Thursday, and any snow accumulation is likely to remain on the ground for the day. While conditions will improve slightly on Thursday night, further snow is anticipated on Friday morning.
By Friday afternoon, milder air will begin to spread across the country, signaling the end of the cold snap. Weather conditions are expected to return to more seasonal norms by Saturday.
