On behalf of the United States, I extend my best wishes to Romani communities everywhere on International Roma Day. We celebrate the rich culture, language, and heritage of Roma, including generations of Romani-Americans who have contributed to the United States.
Roma continue to face racism, discrimination, and xenophobia in many parts of the world, leading to disproportionate poverty, injustice, and even violence against Romani communities. Roma also remain among the world’s most disenfranchised ethnic communities. Ensuring that Romani voters have the right to participate unimpeded in free and fair elections is vital. The U.S. remains committed to promoting the human rights, equality, and dignity of Romani persons domestically and internationally.
