Ben Patrick Mullavey, a 66-year-old resident of Mechanicsburg, Illinois, has pleaded guilty to attempting to arrange the murder of a business associate in Florida. On January 3, 2024, Mullavey met with a former employee in Missouri, offering cash to have the associate killed. Over the following days, Mullavey provided the employee with a crossbow, stolen Florida license plates, and $2,100 in cash, along with detailed instructions on how to carry out the murder. The FBI intercepted the plot before any harm occurred. Mullavey faces up to 10 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on July 22, 2025.
