Hamas has announced that it will only release an American-Israeli hostage, Edan Alexander, along with the bodies of four other hostages, if Israel implements a ceasefire agreement. The deal, described by a senior Hamas official as “exceptional,” requires that talks on the second phase of the ceasefire begin immediately upon release and last no longer than 50 days. The group also demands the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza and Israel’s withdrawal from a strategic corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border.
The hostage release is a crucial component of the ongoing negotiations, with Hamas holding 59 hostages, including Alexander, the last living U.S. citizen held in Gaza.
