Google has confirmed the suspension of Catwatchful, a spyware application disguised as a child-monitoring tool, following a serious security breach. The action comes a full month after cybersecurity researchers reported the leak, which affected over 62,000 users and compromised data from more than 26,000 victim devices.
Delayed Response Raises Concerns
The delay in terminating the app has prompted scrutiny over Google’s responsiveness to platform abuse. Critics note that the company’s policies explicitly prohibit hosting malicious software, intensifying concerns about enforcement consistency.
When questioned by TechCrunch, Google declined to explain why it took four weeks to investigate and disable the spyware’s account.
