Sevilla, 29 June 2025 – The Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4) is set to begin in Sevilla, Spain, marking a pivotal moment for global efforts to mobilize financing, reform financial systems, and accelerate progress on sustainable development.

Describing the summit as a “critical opportunity” to prove that multilateralism can deliver real-world solutions, Li Junhua, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, urged participants to put people’s needs at the centre of global financing reforms.

Held under the banner of renewed international cooperation, FFD4 brings together world leaders, international financial institutions, civil society, and private sector representatives. The goal: to forge a bold, inclusive framework for scaling up financing and transforming global financial rules to serve sustainable development for all.

At today’s flag-raising ceremony, Li praised Spain’s leadership and hospitality, calling it a symbol of “solidarity and commitment to global progress.”

“As we gather for FFD4, we must stay focused on our shared objective: ensuring all countries have fair and equitable access to the resources they need to build a better future,” Li said.

He emphasised the momentum already gained during the preparatory process, highlighting how cooperation has prevailed over division.

“I’m confident we will rise to this occasion and deliver tangible results together here in Sevilla.”

Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, echoed that sentiment, declaring:

“We hope Sevilla will be remembered as the birthplace of a new era of global partnership—one that can alleviate extreme poverty and reshape international cooperation.”

He added that the conference is not just aspirational, but a platform to establish new mechanisms for financing sustainable development at both national and regional levels.

The conference will officially run from 30 June to 3 July, as the world watches to see whether bold commitments and collective will can unlock the resources and reforms needed to meet the demands of a changing world.
