Business

In 2024, global employee engagement fell to 21%, a two-percentage-point decrease from 2023 and the second recorded decline since 2009. This drop resulted in an estimated $438 billion in lost productivity worldwide, according to Gallup’s “State of the Global Workplace: 2024” report.

The report highlights that while engagement levels have stagnated, employee stress and loneliness have increased. Approximately 20% of employees reported experiencing significant loneliness, with higher rates among fully remote workers (25%) compared to on-site employees (16%).

Regional disparities are evident, with Europe exhibiting the lowest engagement at 13%, a decline of two percentage points since 2011. In contrast, regions like South Asia and Latin America show higher engagement levels, at 33% and 31%, respectively.

Gallup estimates that if global workplaces achieved full engagement, the economy could gain an additional $9.6 trillion in productivity, equivalent to 9% of global GDP.

The report underscores the importance of addressing employee engagement to enhance organizational performance and economic productivity. For more detailed insights, the full report is available on Gallup’s website. (Gallup.com)
