Gardaí have issued a nationwide alert as the investigation intensifies into a fatal firebomb attack in Edenderry, Co Offaly, Ireland, that killed four‑year‑old Tadhg Farrell and his 60‑year‑old grandaunt, Mary Holt. Detectives believe the pair were murdered in a petrol‑bomb assault linked to a local drugs gang, in what officers have described as a “reckless, callous and murderous attack” on an innocent family home JOE RTÉ Ireland Her.ie.

The attack occurred shortly before 7.45pm on Saturday at a house in Castleview Park, where Tadhg was being babysat by his grandaunt. A petrol bomb was thrown through a downstairs window, instantly engulfing the living room in flames while the pair sat inside JOE Her.ie. Tadhg’s grandmother, Pauline Holt, aged in her 50s, also suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital JOE Extra.ie.

Investigators are examining whether the firebombing was part of an intimidation campaign linked to a drug debt allegedly owed by an individual known to the family but currently in prison Extra.ie RTÉ Ireland.
