WASHINGTON — Former President Joe Biden has announced plans to establish his presidential library in his home state of Delaware, initiating a major fundraising effort and site selection process for the future museum and archive.

The Joe and Jill Biden Foundation recently approved a 13-member governance board to oversee the project. The board includes close allies such as former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, adviser Steve Ricchetti, and Democratic fundraiser Rufus Gifford.

The library aims to preserve Biden’s legacy and provide public access to historical records, educational programming, and exhibits. While the project is in its early stages, organizers anticipate a fundraising target that may fall between the costs of previous presidential libraries, such as George H.W. Bush’s ($43 million) and Barack Obama’s ($1.6 billion).

The initiative comes amid a shifting political climate and donor landscape, with organizers acknowledging challenges in securing broad financial support. Nonetheless, the library team is confident in its ability to meet fundraising goals and deliver a lasting institution reflecting Biden’s public service.
