WASHINGTON — First Lady Melania Trump has announced the launch of the Presidential AI Challenge, a nationwide initiative inviting students from kindergarten through 12th grade to develop artificial intelligence (AI) projects aimed at solving community challenges.

The contest, unveiled on August 26, 2025, encourages young participants to explore the practical applications of AI in areas such as education, environment, and public services. Students may choose from three tracks: proposing an AI-based solution, building a functional AI tool, or—if educators—designing innovative AI teaching methods.

“This challenge is the first step in preparing our next generation with a base understanding of this important new technology,” Trump said in a video statement, citing her own experience using AI to produce an audiobook of her memoir.

The initiative stems from Executive Order 14277, signed by President Donald Trump in April, which directs federal agencies to promote AI education among American youth. All eligible submissions will receive a Presidential Certificate of Participation, with top teams advancing through state, regional, and national competitions. Finalists will be invited to a showcase event at the White House in June 2026.

Registration and resources are available at AI.gov.
