Malaria is an infectious disease carried by mosquitoes that can kill if left untreated. It’s one of the world’s most severe public health problems, and largely affects the poorest populations in lower-income countries.
But over the last decade or so, the number of children dying from malaria has more than halved, thanks to a huge increase in funding and resources for malaria control around the world.
If this trend continues, it should be possible to eliminate malaria in most of the world, or even the whole world, by 2050.
