You know Evangeline Lilly. You might even be seeing her this weekend in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
You might also know that Evangeline’s found herself in several COVID-19-related controversies since the beginning of the pandemic.
Back in March of 2020 — y’know, right when things started getting real bad — Evangeline spoke out against social distancing and was promptly ridiculed for it. She apologized over a week later.
Last year, she made a long Instagram post about attending an anti-vaccination rally in Washington, D.C. Other MCU stars called her out for it, and in response she…asked Justin Trudeau to meet with fellow anti-vax protesters in Ottawa.
In a new interview with Esquire, Evangeline explained why she posted about attending the rally — y’know, beyond the fact that she clearly doesn’t believe vaccines work (which, spoiler alert, they do).
In the interview, she claims that she asked herself “600 times” (not enough times, IMHO) whether it was a good idea to post about attending the rally.
“I know the beast that I’m attacking,” she said. “I know that I have a little pebble and there’s this fucking Goliath giant. If I shoot this pebble, it’s going to wake the giant.”
“I just wanted people out there who were struggling because they were under severe pressure to do something they didn’t want to do to know that they weren’t alone, and to know that there were people who actually felt they had a right to say no.”
