Global tech manufacturer Epson, accompanied by software specialist partners, will attend this year’s MAINTEC (5-6 June, Birmingham NEC) to demonstrate the benefits of remote assistance and digital workflows using Epson’s Moverio industrial AR smart glasses.
Manufacturers face an average of 800 hours in equipment downtime per year, representing devastating profit losses. Meanwhile, the subsequent CO2 emissions incurred from bringing specialist field engineers onsite to repair faulty production lines are also adding to manufacturers’ triple bottom lines.
And while a tablet or smart phone can offer instruction or communication, they don’t equip personnel with the hands-free capability to simultaneously remedy complex issues. To this end, Epson’s augmented reality smart glasses, complete with remote assistance software from a range of partners, offer two-way visual and verbal instructions that also allows onsite personnel to keep their hands free and address the issue in front of them.
The Moverio smart glasses can also use digital workflows software solutions to provide step-by-step instructions and training for new employees, allowing them to receive visual instructions, hands-free. This is thanks to the binocular Si-OLED microdisplay of the Moverio glasses, which offers sharp detail and vivid colours on a large, see-through display overlaid right in front of your eyes.
“Manufacturers risk significant revenue, time, and environmental losses by isolating their production line from remote expertise, and the Moverio range is bridging the gap between the right engineering expertise and the problem at hand”, commented Marc-Antoine Godfroid, Market Development Manager for Moverio at Epson Europe. “Using digital workflow solutions, Moverio smart glasses are also the perfect tool for industrial companies faced with a shortage of skilled technicians to train new employees and speed up their onboarding.
MAINTEC attracts a lot of people responsible for alleviating downtime through faulty production lines and staff training, and we look forward to showing them solutions with the Epson Moverio BT-45C combined with the user-friendly softwares from our partners.
“With more than a decade of experience driving deployments of AR smart glasses in key vertical markets, and as an original electronics manufacturer, Epson has first-hand experience using Moverio smart glasses for remote assistance purposes. We have also used Moverio to help overseas customers install Epson industrial technologies. Increased travel restrictions over recent years due to the pandemic, environmental or budget concerns, have forced businesses to explore best practice in maintaining production lines remotely, and it is that best practice we strive for with Moverio.”
