When western Nepal was hit by floods in 2021, those most affected received cash grants distributed by the Nepal Red Cross Society.
Sampati Devi Tharu has been one of many who lost everything by the floods. Immediate cash assistance in the aftermath of the floods allowed her to buy shoes, clothes, food and school materials for her children.
Prior to this emergency, the EU and the Nepal Red Cross Society worked on a government social protection system that provides rapid humanitarian assistance to people caught up in a disaster.
Supporting countries to be best prepared for disasters makes a real difference for those affected.
