Insider recently published a story analyzing AI’s role in the evolution of ecommerce, sharing insight from our own Chief AI Officer Nitzan Mekel-Bobrov. Nitzan says that a larger paradigm shift is on its way, and that our platform’s massive data scale is helping eBay take the lead in generative AI for ecommerce.
Nitzan discussed the ways eBay is already using AI to enhance the shopping experience for sellers and buyers, including making the listing process more seamless and magical. In particular, Nitzan says he is focused on supporting smaller sellers and sellers who would otherwise not have access to this technology. AI is also driving innovation at an accelerated pace; in the article, Nitzan touched on the ways AI is being used internally to help our amazing developers work more efficiently and unlock creativity.
On innovating responsibly, Nitzan noted the launch of our Office of Responsible AI: “The recent explosion in generative AI poses new challenges to how we evaluate AI systems, new ways in which bias can show up and fairness needs to be established, and ultimately more uncertainty about the potential outputs a model may generate,” he told Insider.
