The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has secured €2.18 billion in capital funding under Ireland’s National Development Plan (2026–2030), marking an €800 million increase from the 2021 allocation.
Strategic Investment Areas
The funding will support major infrastructure and technology enhancements across the justice sector, including:
- Expansion of prison capacity
- Upgrades to Garda stations and courthouses
- Development of the National Cyber Security Centre
- Key digital transformation initiatives for An Garda Síochána and justice services
Ministerial Endorsements
Minister Jim O’Callaghan, who led negotiations for the allocation, emphasised the importance of sustained investment in public safety and judicial infrastructure.
Minister of State for International Law, Law Reform and Youth Justice, Niall Collins, welcomed the increased Garda funding as vital to enhancing operational capacity.
Minister of State for Migration, Colm Brophy, noted the significance of the €200 million earmarked for developing state-owned International Protection accommodation facilities.
Infrastructure Expansion
The new funding will also support ongoing Public Private Partnership (PPP) commitments, including the planned construction of Family Courts at Hammond Lane in Dublin, featuring 19 courtrooms.
Additionally, Justice ICT funding will enable operational support for the newly established Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland.
