Every other day we do a post about celebrity couples, which, like, blah blah blah good for them*!
But you know who deserves more visibility? Single people!
Someone who has been championing the single life for almost 40 years is Diane Keaton.
She has been talking about being perpetually single for years.
She told People in 2019 that she hasn’t had a date in 35 years.
“I’m 73 and I think I’m the only one in my generation and maybe before who has been a single woman all her life,” she said.
“I don’t think it would have been a good idea for me to have married, and I’m really glad I didn’t, and I’m sure they’re happy about it, too.”
In 2021, she told Lisa Kudrow she never married because of her own personal freedom: “I didn’t want to give up my independence,” she said.
And now Diane Keaton’s response to staying single is once again going viral.
“I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So. I’d like to take you out.’ They don’t happen. Of course not.”
FWIW, Diane adopted two kids after age 50…
…And in recent times, she added a dog named Reggie to the family that a friend randomly gave her.
“I didn’t even ask for her. He came to me and said, ‘I think you need this dog.’ I was like, ‘OK, I guess?’ Of course, now I just love her. Dogs are irresistible. They’re just idiots. Reggie is a big jerk, and she’s a great jerk, and she’s hilarious,” she said.
So, there you have it! Diane Keaton: Turtleneck titan, single icon, and recently converted dog evangelist.
Now everyone see Book Club 2 on May 12th because I already know I need a Book Club 3!
