Delta Air Lines Offers $30,000 to Each Passenger Following Toronto Crash Landing

Delta Air Lines is compensating passengers involved in a dramatic incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport by offering $30,000 each. This “good-faith gesture” is being provided to all 76 passengers and four crew members aboard the Bombardier CRJ900 regional jet, which crash-landed and came to rest upside down earlier this week.

Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant confirmed that the payment, meant to assist passengers without affecting their legal rights, follows a similar practice seen in past airline accidents. For example, US Airways provided $5,000 to passengers of the “Miracle on the Hudson” flight in 2009.

The crash, which occurred Monday, left 21 people injured, though fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Canadian aviation authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and have recovered the cockpit voice and data recorders to assist in their inquiry.
