š Washington, D.C. ā Delivery drones are expected to significantly disrupt the U.S. logistics industry by 2028, according to new survey data released by Tech.co. The findings reveal that 17% of logistics professionals believe drones will be the most transformative technology in the sector within the next two to three years.
The anticipated shift comes amid persistent workforce shortages and rising operational costs across the supply chain. Industry experts suggest that drone technology could alleviate pressure on last-mile delivery, which remains one of the most complex and costly segments of logistics.
Currently, only 7% of U.S. logistics firms report using delivery drones, but interest is growing. The survey also highlights that nearly a quarter of businesses cite driver shortages as their most pressing challenge, prompting increased investment in automation and aerial delivery solutions.
Recent regulatory adjustments, including relaxed restrictions on beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations, have further opened the door for drone deployment. However, widespread adoption still faces hurdles such as airspace management, safety protocols, and infrastructure readiness.
As drone technology matures and regulatory frameworks evolve, analysts predict that unmanned aerial delivery could become a viable and cost-effective alternative to traditional transport methodsāparticularly in urban and remote areas.
