ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Ryan M. Newman, 34, of Corning, New York, has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release, after being convicted of production of child pornography. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca, as announced by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.
Repeat Offender with Prior Convictions
Newman was previously convicted of child pornography offenses in 2012 under New York State law. He served a local jail sentence, followed by 10 years of probation, and was required to register as a Level 3 Sex Offender, indicating a high risk of re-offending.
Investigation and Arrest
The case against Newman began in January 2021, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report from Snapchat regarding the upload of child pornography. The tip was forwarded to the New York State Police, who executed a search warrant at Newman’s residence in 2022. Authorities discovered that Newman had uploaded explicit content and possessed additional illegal material on his electronic devices.
Despite the findings, Newman remained out of custody until April 2024, when the FBI Corning Office received a tip that child pornography involving a local victim had been distributed to an undercover agent in Illinois. Further investigation revealed that Newman had sexually abused the child and produced illicit material, leading to his arrest by the FBI and Corning Police.
Law Enforcement Response
The sentencing follows an extensive investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Corning Office, under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm, and the Corning Police Department, led by Chief Kenzie Spaulding.
Conclusion
Newman’s conviction underscores the seriousness of child exploitation crimes and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable individuals. Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspected child exploitation to organizations such as NCMEC and local law enforcement.
