China Takes Legal Action Against U.S. Tariffs at WTO

World

China has filed a legal complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in response to the United States’ additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods. The move, announced by China’s Commerce Ministry on Tuesday, argues that the U.S.’s unilateral tariff imposition violates WTO rules and threatens the foundation of economic and trade cooperation between the two nations.

The Chinese Ministry expressed “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition,” emphasizing that China would “resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests” under WTO guidelines. Additionally, China plans to retaliate by imposing extra tariffs on U.S. agricultural products, as reported by state media.

The latest round of tariffs, which came into effect on Tuesday, builds on a 10% tariff already imposed by the U.S. on China in February, signaling a continued escalation in the ongoing trade conflict between the two economic giants.
