Beijing has denounced the U.S. administration’s decision to revoke Harvard University’s right to enroll foreign students, calling it a politicization of education that will damage the international reputation of the United States.
Speaking on behalf of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, spokesperson Mao Ning stated: “China has always opposed the politicization of educational cooperation. The U.S. side’s move will only harm the U.S. image and international reputation.”
The decision is expected to significantly impact Chinese students, who have historically made up a large contingent of Harvard’s international enrollment.
China Pledges Support for Affected Students
In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry pledged to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its overseas students and scholars. Mao Ning emphasized that the long-standing educational collaboration between China and the United States benefits both nations, and warned that the move could negatively affect the global perception of U.S. academic institutions.
