Microsoft released a new update for its Xbox Series S|X family of consoles that includes the Shutdown (Energy Saving) option. This option will be automatically applied to all Xbox devices in the Series lineup with no work required of the users.
According to Microsoft, the Shutdown (Energy Saving) update will reduce power consumption of Xbox devices while they are asleep by up to 20 times. Additionally, for customers who still choose the ‘Sleep’ option for their console, these users will be able to set an ‘Active Hours’ timeframe. While the console is in the Active Hours timeframe, it will be remote wakeable via the controller, enabling seamless transitions into gaming. While the console is outside of its Active Hours timeframe, it will enter a Shutdown state where it consumes little to no power.
Xbox users will be able to change their power save options in the Power Options menu located in the General tab of the Settings page.
