Budapest, 13 October 2025 — Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, has celebrated the launch of two new Jet2.com routes connecting the Hungarian capital with Newcastle International Airport and East Midlands Airport. The services, operating twice weekly, mark a significant expansion of the UK leisure airline’s presence in Central Europe.
Strengthening UK–Hungary Connectivity
- The new flights will operate from October 2025 to April 2026, with Newcastle flights scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays, and East Midlands flights on Mondays and Fridays Jet2.com
- With these additions, Jet2.com now serves six UK destinations from Budapest: Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, and East Midlands, alongside seasonal services.
- The expansion responds to growing demand for city breaks and cultural tourism between the UK and Hungary.
Strategic Importance
Markus Klaushofer, Chief Commercial Officer at Budapest Airport, welcomed the development:
“We are thrilled to see Jet2.com’s expansion from Budapest taking flight with the launch of these two new routes. The UK remains one of our top international markets, and these additions provide even greater access for British holidaymakers seeking the charm and culture of Budapest.”
The move underscores Budapest Airport’s strategy of diversifying its route network and strengthening its position as a leading Central European hub.
Industry Context
- Jet2.com, the UK’s third-largest airline, has been steadily expanding its European city break offerings, with Budapest ranking among its most popular destinations.
- The new routes also enhance competition: while Ryanair already operates East Midlands–Budapest flights, Jet2.com will be the only carrier offering Newcastle–Budapest services
- Tourism officials expect the routes to boost inbound travel to Hungary, particularly from Northern and Central England, while also giving Hungarian travellers easier access to UK regions.
Outlook
The launch of these routes highlights the resilience of European air travel demand and the continued appeal of Budapest as a year-round destination. With Jet2.com’s expanded network, Budapest Airport strengthens its role as a gateway between Central Europe and the UK, supporting both tourism and business ties.
