Whether it’s giving Sean Payton control of football operations or the largest contract for a head coach in NFL history, the Broncos need an epic plan to land the most coveted choice in the coaching carousel.
“Yes, many around the league expect Denver to at least check in on Payton and make a major run at him,” wrote ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
However, Denver might need a grander scheme since he has options, including a New Orleans reunion.
According to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio, the Saints’ desire to bring back Payton “is the worst-kept secret in the league.”
Payton was the Saints head coach from 2006 to 2021, where he won 63 percent of his games and a Super Bowl title (XLIV). New Orleans holds his rights through 2024.
