Bright Three-Story Apartment Buildings : Axolotl

Trends
Architecture and engineering studio Yu2e completes the Axolotl, which is an apartment building with a three-story structure located by public transit. The building is made up of seven rental units to house multiple families. The local studio is inspired by two historic housing styles in Los Angeles which is the bungalow court. It is built with wood and steel materials across three levels which takes up 10,900 square feet.

It was developed under the Transit Oriented Communities Incentive Program to encourage more affordable housing by the transportation stations. Yu2e explains that “Many architects in the 20th century had experimented with low-rise housing typologies that would not overwhelm suburban neighborhoods while providing affordable housing options. With characteristics taken from both bungalow courts and dingbat apartments, our project is an evolutionary hybrid of Los Angeles middle housing.”
