Bengals QB Joe Burrow has received a lot of praise during his young NFL career. But former Bengals QB Boomer Esiason might have just given him his highest praise yet.
Esiason says the 26-year-old reminds him of one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.
“I would compare him to a young Tom Brady,” Esiason told Bengals’ reporter Dan Hoard. “In terms of the way that he plays, is the way that Tom Brady plays the game.”
It doesn’t seem to be far-fetched, and Burrow just defeated Brady in Week 15. The main difference between the two is where they were drafted.
Burrow, the 2020 first-overall pick, has been viewed as a franchise QB since entering the league. Brady was picked 199th in the sixth round and has always carried that edge with him.
However, Burrow has dealt with and reached much higher expectations due to his draft position.
“I think he has lived up to every single expectation. I mean, the kid is a can’t-miss player,” Esiason added. “I think he’s going to go to even greater heights.”
Esiason, like many Bengals fans, is happy they have Burrow and believes he is a perfect fit for the franchise.
“He’s an Ohio kid,” Esiason finished. “He’s a local kid, and he’s done well. And he’s exceeded every single expectation. There’s no question about that.”
