Shikarpur, Pakistan, 7 October 2025 — A powerful blast on a railway track in Sindh’s Shikarpur district derailed multiple coaches of the Jaffar Express on Tuesday morning, leaving at least seven passengers injured, officials confirmed.
The Incident
The explosion occurred around 8:15 a.m. near Sultan Kot railway station, about one kilometre from the site, as the Quetta-bound train was passing through. The blast caused four to five bogies to derail, forcing the train to halt. Emergency teams rushed to the scene, and the injured were transported to the Combined Military Hospital and Civil Hospital Shikarpur for treatment.
Response and Investigation
Local authorities, including police and railway officials, cordoned off the area and began repair work to restore services. Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Abro confirmed the injuries and said efforts were underway to trace those responsible. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security Concerns
The Jaffar Express, which runs between Peshawar and Quetta, has been repeatedly targeted in recent years. In September, a similar blast in Balochistan’s Mastung district injured 12 passengers, while earlier this year militants hijacked the train in the Bolan Pass, holding hundreds of passengers hostage.
Outlook
The latest incident underscores the persistent security threats facing Pakistan’s railway network, particularly in regions bordering Balochistan. Authorities have pledged to strengthen patrols and surveillance along vulnerable stretches of track to safeguard passengers and restore confidence in one of the country’s key cross-country rail links.
