Bengals QB Joe Burrow has a lot of nicknames, including “Joe Cool,” “Joe Sheisty,” “Joe Brrr” and “Tiger King.” However, Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has a new one to add to the list.
“He is a steely-eyed killer, man,” Anarumo said on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “He just wants to go out there and win football games. He doesn’t flinch in the biggest moments, as we’ve seen.”
Burrow has earned every name he’s been given, but Anarumo’s may be the most unique one yet. Steely-eyed is defined as having a hard, strong and determined look about oneself.
It may not be the fan-favorite, but it seems to fit. Burrow is as focused as it gets, and he’s defeated some of the top competitors in the league just three years into his young NFL career.
Anarumo, now is his fourth year as DC for the Bengals, is glad he has Burrow because he delivers when the team needs him the most.
“I just know if we’re struggling a little bit, get the ball back to him and he’s gonna make throws,” Anarumo added. “He goes out there and he plays fearless, and he’s smart. Man, I’m so thankful he’s on our team.”
Burrow is in the MVP conversation. He is second in the NFL in passing touchdowns (27) and third-best in passing yards (3,685) and completion percentage (68.1), per ESPN.com.
He may just add MVP to his list of nicknames by season’s end.
