BBVA has set a new target of €700 billion in sustainable business investments between 2025 and 2029, more than doubling its previous goal. This ambitious goal is aimed at accelerating the bank’s environmental and social transformation within a condensed five-year timeline.

Javier Rodríguez Soler, BBVA’s Global Head of Sustainability, emphasized that sustainability remains a core strategic priority for the bank. “The business opportunity in the second part of the decade will be driven by solid investment in infrastructure and the maturation of new clean technologies,” Soler explained.

The bank’s focus areas include climate action, natural capital, and inclusive growth. Specific initiatives will target projects in water, agriculture, the circular economy, as well as social infrastructure like education and healthcare.

Since committing to sustainability in 2019, BBVA has progressively increased its targets, achieving its €300 billion goal a year ahead of schedule. To date, 78% of sustainable funds have been allocated to climate and natural capital projects, with 22% directed toward inclusive growth.

BBVA’s approach involves providing financing and advisory services across sectors, with Corporate and Investment Banking leading the charge, accounting for 59% of the bank’s sustainable transactions.
