At least 10 members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) were killed in an ambush on Saturday in the Anka Local Government Area, while 14 others were injured. The attack occurred shortly after a raid by soldiers on a bandits’ hideout in the Sunke forest, where several bandits were reportedly killed, and arms were recovered.
Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the attack in a Facebook post on Sunday, explaining that the raid followed a military operation against the bandits. He also noted that two members of the CPG and a vigilante were still missing after the incident.
This attack adds to the ongoing violence and insecurity in northern Nigeria, where banditry and armed criminal activity remain major challenges.
