The AOPA Foundation has announced its largest-ever scholarship program, awarding $2.2 million to nearly 400 recipients out of more than 6,800 applicants. The scholarships aim to support aspiring pilots and aviation professionals, helping them overcome financial barriers to training and certification.

Scholarship Details

  • More than half of the funds will provide $12,900 each to at least 80 high school students and up to 20 teachers pursuing their private pilot certificates.
  • Additional scholarships cover advanced pilot training, including instrument ratings, commercial licenses, and flight instructor certifications.
  • Funding is also available for non-flying aviation careers, such as mechanic and flight dispatcher training.

Impact on Aviation Careers

“These scholarships are life-changing,” said Taz Thomas, AOPA’s scholarship program manager. “Past recipients have gone on to work in every corner of the aviation industry.”

AOPA Foundation Senior Vice President Elizabeth Tennyson emphasized the importance of financial support in aviation: “The biggest barrier to getting into aviation is the cost. We are honored to work with generous donors who are dedicated to investing in the next generation of pilots and aviation professionals.”

Application and Future Opportunities

Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 31, 2025. The application window for 2026 scholarships will open on October 6, 2025.
