Czech design studio Atelier-r adds new refreshing elements to the Red Church in Olumous within the Czech Republic. It sees a new angular extension in a matte-black finish along with public spaces done in a neo-gothic design. The renovated new space hosts an information center and cafe. It can also serve as an events venue or a space to host exhibitions and small concerts. The church was first built in 1902 and was closed to be used as private storage for the library next to the location for the past 60 years.

Miroslav Pospíšil, the founder of the studio speaks to Dezeen about the project, stating “The building itself was preserved as a whole but in a very poor condition. We had to do a complete makeover with maximum effort to retain the original elements. We designed the renovation with deep respect for the neo-gothic atmosphere of the place. The floors were a complete redo, including the layers all the way down to the terrain base.”
