Budapest, Hungary – August 7, 2025
American Airlines has announced the resumption of its non-stop flight between Budapest and Philadelphia, set to begin on 21 May 2026. The route, suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, marks a major milestone in the restoration of transatlantic air connectivity and will be the first direct U.S. flight to return to Budapest since the global health crisis.
The daily service will operate through 5 October 2026, using the modern Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, equipped with business, premium economy, and economy cabins. The aircraft will depart Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport at 11:25 a.m. and arrive at Philadelphia International Airport at 3:00 p.m. local time. The return flight will leave Philadelphia at 6:50 p.m., landing in Budapest at 9:25 a.m. the following day.
With a weekly capacity of 3,200 seats, the route is expected to serve both leisure and business travelers, offering seamless connections to over 100 destinations across North America and the Caribbean via American Airlines’ Philadelphia hub.
François Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, stated:
“The direct flight to Philadelphia is of huge significance for tourism and trade, and I am proud to welcome American Airlines back among our airline partners. Months of preparation have gone into restoring this vital transatlantic link.”
Olivér Csendes, CEO of Visit Hungary, added:
“This new direct service strengthens Budapest’s position as one of Europe’s fastest-growing and most dynamic city destinations. Data-driven promotional efforts and insights from the National Tourism Data Supply Center played a key role in demonstrating market demand.”
José A. Freig, Vice President – International and Inflight Dining Operations at American Airlines, commented:
“Customer demand for culturally rich destinations continues to grow. This route gives Hungarian travelers direct access to one of our fastest-growing U.S. hubs, with onward connections to more than 100 destinations.”
Tickets for the summer 2026 season will be available starting 11 August 2025 via the American Airlines website, mobile app, and authorized travel partners.
