Ambienta, a European asset manager specializing in sustainability-focused investments, has acquired Agronova Biotech, marking its first foray into the $21 billion biosolutions market. The Spain-based company was purchased from Magnum Industrial Partners and the Casanova family, expanding Ambienta’s geographic footprint and sector reach.
Agronova is a global leader in biological crop solutions, offering over 800 microbial-based products that serve as alternatives to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Its portfolio includes biostimulants and biocontrols designed to address both biotic stressors (e.g., insects, fungi) and abiotic challenges (e.g., drought, flooding), helping farmers improve crop yields through organic methods.
“This acquisition bears a double significance,” said Mauro Roversi, Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Ambienta. “We are entering a sector we’ve studied extensively and expanding our reach with a highly visible asset in Spain”.
The biosolutions market is experiencing rapid growth, driven by environmental pressures, regulatory shifts, and consumer demand for sustainable agricultural practices. Agronova operates across Europe and the Americas, supported by five laboratories and six production facilities strategically located in major farming regions.
Ambienta plans to scale Agronova through organic growth and strategic M&A, leveraging its expertise to support farmers in transitioning to more sustainable methods. Agronova CEO Olivier Lavaud commented, “Ambienta is the ideal partner to help us unlock our full potential. We share a strong commitment to sustainable agriculture”.
