Amazon Dominates U.S. Apparel Market, Expected to Surpass $76 Billion in Sales

Business

Amazon continues to solidify its position as the largest apparel and footwear retailer in the U.S., with estimated sales reaching $68 billion in 2023, according to Ike Boruchow, an equity analyst at Wells Fargo. This figure represents 13.2% of all apparel sales in the U.S. and an impressive 41.4% share of online apparel sales.

Boruchow notes that Amazon’s dominance in the softlines retail segment—which includes clothing and footwear—exceeds the combined market share of Walmart and TJ Maxx. The investment bank projects that Amazon’s apparel sales will grow to over $76 billion in 2025, further strengthening its foothold in the industry.

Amazon’s success in the apparel sector is driven by its vast product selection, competitive pricing, and Prime membership benefits, which encourage repeat purchases. Analysts suggest that Amazon’s ability to leverage third-party sellers and private-label brands has contributed to its rapid expansion in the fashion market.
