📍 Dublin, Ireland — The Government has published the 2024 Annual Report of Abhaile, Ireland’s national mortgage arrears resolution service, highlighting its support for more than 32,000 borrowers since its launch in 2016. The service provides free financial and legal advice to help individuals resolve mortgage arrears and remain in their homes.

Jointly overseen by the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Abhaile is delivered through a network of organisations including MABS, the Citizens Information Board, the Insolvency Service of Ireland, the Legal Aid Board, and the Courts Service.

According to the report, 16,024 borrowers received assistance from MABS mortgage advisers, while 16,046 engaged with Personal Insolvency Practitioners (PIPs). Of those advised by PIPs, 37% had secured a resolution, with another 37% actively working toward one.

In 2024 alone, 2,083 first-time borrowers accessed financial advice, 1,958 vouchers were issued for PIP consultations, and 555 vouchers supported legal advice through solicitors.

Welcoming the report, Minister Jim O’Callaghan said Abhaile is making a “real and tangible difference” in people’s lives. Minister Dara Calleary urged those facing mortgage difficulties to seek help through MABS, emphasizing that “support is available.”

The Government has extended Abhaile until the end of 2027 and introduced enhancements, including the option for borrowers to apply for a second round of financial and legal support vouchers.
