Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt will travel to Houston April 29 to May 1 for the 10th United States – Republic of Korea (ROK) Energy Security Dialogue (ESD) and engagements at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. The dialogue will advance increased U.S. and ROK collaboration on energy security and the clean energy transition.
On April 29, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will join a series of discussions with energy experts and senior U.S. officials at Rice University’s Baker Institute including Ambassador Kathleen Stephens, a Texas native who served as the 20th U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. Assistant Secretary Pyatt will also lead a roundtable on Women in Energy, as well as a fireside chat with Rice and University of Houston students.
During the April 30 and May 1 U.S.-ROK ESD, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will lead the U.S. delegation, including officials from the Department of State, Department of Energy, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. The delegation from the Republic of Korea will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Hee-sang Kim and include interlocutors from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Houston.
The U.S.-ROK ESD will cover the full scope of energy security and energy transition priorities. This includes collaboration on decarbonization efforts and clean energy cooperation, securing and diversifying critical mineral supply chains, including through the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) and the MSP Forum, American LNG exports, and the role of the private sector in combatting climate change. Additionally, officials will discuss urgently needed support for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the wake of the escalation in Russian attacks.
For the first time, the U.S. and ROK delegations will participate in a number of public-private roundtables with senior U.S. and ROK company executives and finance professionals to better understand how government policies can help accelerate investment in critical mineral supply chains, offshore wind deployment, and the clean hydrogen sector.
