After months of speculation, Humane, founded by Apple alumni Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, has officially unveiled the AI PIN—a revolutionary wearable device centered on artificial intelligence.
Resembling a pin, this innovative gadget attaches to clothing, enabling users to access various services through voice commands, touch gestures, or a laser projector.
What are AI PIN’s features?
The AI PIN boasts a Snapdragon processor, an ultra-wide camera, depth sensors, and a speaker. Fueled by an internal battery, it offers the flexibility of rapid battery replacement through an external magnetically attached power source. Positioned as “the new way to connect to the world,” the device aims to replace traditional smartphones, allowing users to stay connected without the reliance on screens or keyboards.
This groundbreaking device lets users receive calls, messages, and notifications directly on the pin. Responding to notices can be done effortlessly through voice or touch commands. Additionally, users can control music playback, select songs, manage playlists, or adjust volume settings. Beyond these functionalities, the AI PIN leverages its environmental awareness to compare product prices in stores or provide nutritional information for food items.
Utilizing the laser projector, users can project images onto their palms or surfaces, create interfaces for music, display incoming calls, or showcase text messages. To address privacy concerns, Humane assures users that the pin does not continuously listen or record. Users must manually activate the pin through touch, with a dedicated light indicating when recording is in progress.
Humane aims for the AI PIN to be a stand-alone device rather than a smartphone accessory. All user data is stored in the cloud as part of an artificial intelligence model. The purchase at $699 includes a charger and two battery boosters. However, a monthly subscription of $24 is required for T-Mobile cellular network connectivity, access to the AI model, and cloud storage for information and photos.
The company website says that it believes in building innovative technology that feels familiar, natural, and human, and technology that enhances the human experience and is driven by good intentions. Humane says that its products reconnect us with ourselves, each other, and the world around us. They offer experiences founded on trust, with magical and enjoyable interactions. Humane was established on the principle that we all deserve more from technology, the website explains.
Founded in 2018, Humane has raised $230 million and established collaborations with Microsoft, LG, SanDisk, Qualcomm, and OpenAI—the company behind the ChatGPT artificial intelligence model.
