Three-time Olympic medalist and two-time world champion sprinter Tori Bowie died at the age of 32, according to a statement from sports agency ICON Management.
Bowie starred at the University of Southern Mississippi, capturing both the indoor and outdoor national championships for the long jump in 2011. A prolific competitor in the professional Diamond League, Bowie’s star turn took place at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio where she won bronze in the 200-meter dash, silver in 100 meters and gold in the 4×100 relay alongside Allyson Felix, Tianna Bartoletta and English Gardner.
One of her most memorable runs took place in the 100-meter dash at the 2017 World Championships in London. Bowie came from behind to edge past Marie-Josée Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast, winning her only individual world championship by one-hundredth of a second. Bowie also won gold for the 4×100 relay.
No cause of death was given.
