Congratulations to Alex Ovechkin on scoring goal No. 800 of his legendary NHL career. The 37-year-old hit the benchmark in classic Ovi fashion, tallying a hat trick against the Chicago Blackhawks to become just the third player in league history to reach the 800-goal plateau. The three-time Hart Trophy winner is now just two goals away from sole possession of second place and 95 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record. Barring injury and assuming he keeps up his current scoring pace, it’s likely that he tops the Great One’s mark sometime near the start of the 2024-25 season, but that is still a few years away. For now, let’s simply celebrate his current achievement, as there is no guarantee that we see another player join the 800-goal club in our lifetimes.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. While Ovi is still in third place all time for most goals scored, he already holds the record for goals scored for one team. So with that in mind, how many of the players with the most career goals for every NHL franchise can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
