Kejriwal calls Sisodia’s arrest a conspiracy
New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government is facing a cloud of trouble after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia as he holds 18 portfolios including education, finance and home. Prior to Sisodia’s arrest, the then Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was arrested in June last year. After his absence, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has no strong face to implement his agenda of governance in Delhi. The immediate challenge for Kejriwal is to present the Delhi government’s budget in a timely manner and find a new leader to replace Sisodia. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources told that Revenue Minister Kailash Gehlot can present the budget of the Delhi government for the next financial year.
Sisodia has 18 portfolios
An AAP functionary told PTI, “There was a possibility that the CBI may arrest the Deputy Chief Minister, Gehlot was attending budget-related meetings for the last few days.” Gehlot is likely to present the budget for 2023-24. It is to be presented next month. According to the Delhi government website, there are a total of 33 departments, out of which Sisodia holds 18 departments, including Health, Education, Public Works Department (PWD), Services, Finance, Electricity, Home and Urban Development. He is also in charge of other departments which are not specifically allotted to any minister.

Sisodia arrested on Sunday
Apart from Kejriwal, there are six cabinet ministers in the Delhi government, including the jailed Satyendar Jain. Jain is still a minister without any portfolio. Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last year in a money laundering case. The CBI arrested Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday evening after nearly eight hours of questioning over alleged corruption in the implementation of the Excise Policy for 2021-22. Kejriwal said – the public is watching everything
The probe agency says there were irregularities in both the formulation and implementation of the excise policy and it was allegedly aimed at benefiting people associated with the AAP. On Sisodia’s arrest, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the Deputy Chief Minister is innocent and his arrest is ‘dirty politics’. He tweeted, ‘Manish is innocent. His arrest is dirty politics. There is a lot of anger among the people due to the arrest of Manish. Everyone is watching. People are understanding everything. People will respond to this. This will boost our spirits further. Our struggle will be stronger.
