At the NBA trade deadline, several players returned to their original teams — Jakob Poeltl to the Raptors, Spencer Dinwiddie to the Nets and D’Angelo Russell to the Lakers.
In another deal, the Clippers sent veteran guard John Wall to the Rockets, where he spent the past two seasons. Houston is expected to release Wall, leaving him available on the buyout market.
Could Wall reunite with his original NBA team?
In December, the former All-Star left the door open for a potential return to the Washington Wizards, who drafted him with the first overall pick in 2010. The Wizards have a roster spot available after waiving Will Barton.
Following multiple severe leg injuries, Wall is not the same player that he was at the height of his career in D.C. In 34 games this season, mostly off the bench, he averages 11.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds.
However, he could be a reasonable addition to the team even beyond his sentimental value. Backups Delon Wright, Jordan Goodwin and Kendrick Nunn aren’t floor generals, so Washington could use a backup guard.
As long as Wall knows his role and doesn’t try to play above it, his facilitating off the bench could be a valuable asset for the Wizards (25-29).
Wall is near the end of his career. Why not finish it where he started?
