The Paris Climate Agreement, agreed by more than 180 countries in 2015, is humankind’s best chance of stopping runaway climate breakdown by 2050.
In June 2017, United States president Donald Trump announced that the country would withdraw from the treaty, claiming that it would undermine the US economy. His decision was widely criticised across the political spectrum.
Four days later, the “We Are Still In” declaration was launched, allowing leaders of US states, communities, tribes and businesses to pledge to honour the commitments of the treaty. Its signatories represent more than 155 million Americans, and $9 trillion of the US economy.
